Allen Freeman and Charles Major carried the mantle of original founder W.E. Freeman forward and built Freeman and Major into one of South Carolina’s most respected architectural firms. In 2006, Joel Van Dyke AIA, an award-winning architect with over twenty years’ experience brought a new vision and great energy to this 70-year legacy.

We’re honored to have earned Joel’s trust, and to have a role in bringing life to his ideas as agency of record. SHiFT will collaborate to develop a new website, corporate video and promotional materials for the firm that’s been the design force behind some of the Upstate’s most distinctive landmarks.

In sharing our approach to branding, web development and content marketing with Joel, we found a kindred spirit. In early 2011, Joel was the only American to attend an international conference in Berlin that brought together some of the world’s best thought leaders addressing how Design could more effectively interface with business dynamics. The focus was a concept called Design Thinking, a unique approach to problem solving grounded in a deeper level of immersion within the user experience. Joel came away convinced that a similar protocol could transform the very essence of architectural practice.
